Have a small group of students go to a computer.  Explain to students that you are going to use the computer to read an Mini-Research eBook about patterns and how to make them.  List 2 or more questions that introduce students to your Mini-Research eBook that will establish a connection to students' prior knowledge by asking them:
1. "Does anyone know what a pattern is?"
2. "Can anyone tell me how to make a pattern?
Today we are going to read an eBook on the Internet.  I have made a special Mini-Research eBook on the Internet for your class.  (During discussion have students turn around away from the computer to interact.)

Estimated Time for Step One:
5 minutes

Step Two Teaching the Primary Learning Outcomes:
(Students will sit at the computer where they can control the mouse and computer.)  (Explain to students the process of the lesson.)  We are going to read my Mini-Research eBook and visit several websites.

Check for understanding
Students with teacher assistance will read the Mini-Research eBook, explore, and discuss the information in the four linking websites that go with the Mini-Research eBook.  Ask students guiding questions about the important concepts in the Mini-Research eBook and the linking websites.   List four or more questions from each of your linking websites that will guide your students to gain information for your PLO.
1.  In the first example, can you tell me what the next sequence for flower, star, flower, star might be?
2.
On page 2 can you please tell me what the next two shapes might be?
3.  On this website there are four silly faces that form a pattern, what is the next silly face in the pattern?
4.  One this website you can color you own beads while making a necklace, can you copy the pattern that is shown above using different colors?

Mini-Research eBook Real World Activity
(Your Mini-Research eBook Real-World Activity copied from your Mini-Research eBook.)
Let's Go on a Treasure Hunt
Real-World Activity: We are going to be explorers for the day! We are going to travel deep into the jungle and see what we can find! After traveling for a little while we come across a treasure chest, but it's locked! In order to unlock th treasure chest we need to complete a pattern that is on the top. There are a few gem stones that form the pattern and we want that treasure so we need to figure out what stones go next! Once we have completed the pattern and the treasure chest is unlocked, it reveals a shiny treasure inside! We all know that we want that treasure, but to be fair we have to split it up evenly amongst ourselves. When we split our treasure up evenly we will be forming patterns!
Lesson # 1 Directions:
1) Complete a pattern on top of treasure chest using gems to get to treasure inside.
2) Once we have unlocked the treasure chest we must split the treasure that we discovered evenly. In order to split it up evenly, we must form patterns.
3) After everyone works together to form these patterns I am going to take pictures of your work and post it on my website!
4) If you need some help, go back and look at these helpful websites about patterns!!
    a. VROOM!!
    b. silly
    c. Make your own!
Lesson # 2 Directions:
1) I want you to use paint to make your own patterns. I want you to form your own patterns using shapes and colors.
2) I will be giving you all a little treasure box and after you put your own treasure inside of the box then you will paint a pattern on top of the treasure chest.
3) I will be posting these on my website so try your hardest, I can come around to help whoever needs it.

Descriptions of Students' Evidence that Illustrate the Achieved Performance Level of the PLO
(* To receive full credit description must include minimum of two sentences and a detailed example of the students' evidence.)

This student understood the concept of patterns but did not understad how to form the more complex patterns. She was able to form simple ABAB patterns but was still a little unsure how to do the ABBA ABBA patterns.

This student also understood the complex of patterns that were semi-complex but still did not understand the concept of complex patterns. He also understood the ABAB patterns but was a little unsure of how to do the ABBA ABBA patterns.

1. Comment on your teaching of how your Mini-Research eBook Lesson created learning experiences and activities that implemented the use a variety of resources and technologies.  (* To receive full credit description must include a minimum of two sentences and a detailed example.)
The students in the activity have used patterns before in their every morning routine they do when they complete a pattern. The students really understood the ABAB pattern and somewhat understood the ABBABB pattern but when it came to the ABCABC pattern, they were getting a little lost and confused.

2. State evidence to show that your students gained knowledge during your Mini-Research eBook Lesson.  (* To receive full credit description must include a minimum of two sentences and a detailed example.)
Once my students were done doing the eBook activity they had a better knowledge of patterns and understood that you can use shape and not just color. Also when the lesson was over they had a better understanding of the more complex patterns but did not understand them completely.

3. Give at least one suggestion that would lead to improving your teaching practices and student achievement.  (* To receive full credit description must include a minimum of two sentences and a detailed example.)
I think that a way to improve my student achievement or my teaching practices would be to try and physically have them try to complete more complex patterns so they can practice how to do them. I also think that I could try to direct their attention away from the computer while I am trying to teach the lesson.
