What is a Linear Function?
As you have learned previously, a
linear function can be written as y=mx
+ b.
You may also write this equation
using function
notation in the form of f(x)=mx
+ b.
(Remember, in slope intercept form 'm'
is the slope and 'b' is the y-intercept.)
The most basic linear function
is called the parent linear function and
is written as
f(x)=x,
which is represented by the graph shown above. To view more parent graphs
for the
remaining basic functions,
take a look at this parent
graph toolkit which will
give you the name, shape, and equation
while also explaining the
properties, domain, and range of each
function.
