Nota Bene: It is highly recommended that the user of this document read the Introduction to obtain a fuller understanding of Dublin Core and its implementation.

The identifer element is designed to provide information that allows the identification of the object. Print resources use ISBN (International Standard Book Number) or for Journals, an ISSN (International Standard Serial Number). The most common identifying element for Web DLOs is the URL, or Uniform Resource Locator (sometimes found as Universal Resource Locator). The DC element for this Web page is as follows:
<META NAME="DC.identifier" CONTENT="(SCHEME=URL) http://mailer.fsu.edu/~gvf4318/dcidentifier.html>
The data for this element is pretty straightforward.
| TYPE | SCHEME | LANG |
|---|---|---|
(an original) | (default=English) Standard ISO 639 | |
original) | ||
The TYPE primary refers to an original document. Almost every Web page will be an original, but there are exceptions. If the entire work is copied into a new format, for example from book form to Web, then the TYPE qualifier copy should be used. If the work was a new edition, the SCHEME version should also be used.
