PADM 7040 Nonprofit Management
Grant Proposal
Fall 2005

Original Project Description
We will form teams based on common interests in categories of nonprofit activity. Each team will be comprised of three to five members and will gather information on grant-funding sources. Hopefully the group will find a "request for proposals" (RFP) that fits one or more of the nonprofits researched by the group members. From this information the team will develop a grant proposal and presentation that could be submitted to a funding source. The format of the grant proposal or application will depend on the funding source and RFP requirements. Formats vary widely depending on the source of the funding and the type of grant. Some funding sources will have a formal application for submission while others will allow for free-form proposals. Be sure to provide either the RFP or guidelines for applications from the funding source.
Members of the team should keep track of their contributions and submit individual summaries of their efforts on this project. Group members will also rate the contributions of the other members of their group.
Grant Project Details:
Team vs. Individual Project
The formation of teams to do the grant proposal will be voluntary. If those students who have common interests in nonprofit activities want to cooperate on the grant project, they will be encouraged to do that. The team size will be flexible, with two to five members per group.
RFPs/Grant Sources

Those in the group or individuals working alone will gather information on grant-funding sources. Hopefully the group or individual will find a "request for proposals" (RFP) that fits one or more of the nonprofits researched by the group members. It is possible that the nonprofit organization used as the source information for the nonprofit overview might tell class members about grant opportunities. From this information the individual or team will develop a grant proposal and presentation that could be submitted to a funding source.

Format
The format of the grant proposal or application will depend on the funding source and RFP requirements. Formats vary widely depending on the source of the funding and the type of grant. Some funding sources will have a formal application for submission while others will allow for free-form proposals. Be sure to provide either the RFP or guidelines for applications from the funding source.
Grant Presentations
Imagine you are presenting the grant proposal or application to the review group that is in charge of selecting recipients of the grant funding. It might be best to use a PowerPoint for the overall presentation with the understanding that forms specified by the source will be used. In some cases a completed form might be used as a page or slide in the PowerPoint.
