Thank you for welcoming me to this
discussion thread!
My
name is Emily Gung,
and like Maral, I also taught ESL
for 2 years with VSU International Programs
from 2002-2004. I decided on the luminous
career of teaching after spending 2
incredible years abroad from 2000-2002
teaching English in a Japanese middle school
with the
JET Program. I was having the time of
my life indulging in travel and escaping any
real responsibility or commitment, until I
realized that I, without a doubt in my mind,
passionately loved teaching, and thus
decided to return to VSU to pursue an M.Ed
along with an MPA. Last year, I taught for
the VSU Graduate School and tutored
prospective students in graduate school
admissions testing: GRE, GMAT, and MAT.
This year, I am buckling down with my
internship in the Honors Program by
shadowing the Program Director, Dr. Byron
Brown, who asked me to
design and maintain their new University
Honors Program website as well as write
for their Honora. This May, I have
started teaching
Japanese Language and Culture classes,
and am looking forward to finishing my MPA
in August!
I did my undergraduate in Philosophy from
VSU, and was deliriously happy by being
involved in VSU Debate, SGA and the Honors
Program. That's probably why I like
debating and love asking lots of questions
and putting myself out there for the record,
where I know I'm in trouble!! Sometimes, we
all need to impel ourselves -- Who knows,
perhaps others will like it. However, I'm
pretty sure that God in his high mandate in
heaven will be looking down @ his creation,
saying, "Hey, what's going on down there?"
As
a part of my Case Study and Analysis for
this class, I will be evaluating the
University Honors Program curricula and
program success. I will base my analysis on
several assessments, as well as develop a
brand new online questionnaire that will
survey satisfaction of students, faculty and
administrators. My final report will focus
on program effectiveness.
Ironically, I prefer anonymity. I am one
of those people who don't fill conversation
gaps just to keep a discussion going. I
usually don't fence nor take the time to
build rapport, unless it is something
special like this -- spilling over my
innermost thoughts on the Internet, cutting
across barriers of time and space, and
hoping that others will find my post
appealing enough to do the same.
Let's hear what you have to say!
Sincerely,
Emily Gung
