faculty The percussion faculty at Valdosta State University want to invite you to be a part of our exciting university program of study in music that will develop your creative talents in the area of percussion. Consider the following advantages of percussion study at Valdosta State University:


1. Individualized private lesson study with two experienced professional percussion teachers and performers who emphasize all facets of percussion performance while allowing students to develop skills in an individual area of interest, including both jazz and orchestral studies.

2. Opportunities to perform with many and varied ensembles including the Blazin' Brigade marching band, concert band, jazz ensemble, jazz combos, Valdosta Symphony Orchestra, choral organizations, percussion ensembles, steel drum band, musical theatre, and opera.

3. The camaraderie of many percussion students who will support your professional development as a performer.

timpani 4. The opportunity to perform on top-of-the line professional equipment, including a set of Dresden timpani made by The American Drum Company, and numerous quality keyboard mallet instruments such as an artist four octave rosewood xylophone a beautiful five octave marimba.  

5. Plenty of regional performance opportunities coupled with active touring schedules of our our own VSU ensembles.

6. A nationally accredited Department of Music that offers student centered degree programs and an extensive schedule of workshops and guest clinicians throughout the year.  We offer a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music, a Bachelor of Music with majors in Music Education and in Performance, and the Master of Music Education and the Master of Music Performance.

7. Availability of financial assistance and scholarships.

We can arrange a variety of visitation activities, including a free private lesson with a member of the VSU percussion faculty. An audition is required for admission to the Department of Music and for scholarship consideration.
