| Tips for Planning &
Teaching Your Mini-Research Lessons A few days before you are going to teach
your lessons:
1. After Dr. Judd has
approved your lesson plans, then have your mentor teacher will need to
approve your
lesson plans before you teach them.2. Ask your mentor teacher the days and times for you to teach your two Mini-Research Lessons. 3. If your your Mini-Research Lesson is published on the Internet (web pages) or you are going to teach one of your lessons using the Promethean or the SMART Board and the other lesson at a computer, you will need to ask your mentor teacher which computer you should use to teach your lessons. At the computer, you will teach two students and the students will work together at one computer. The students will take turns controling the computer. (You are there to guide the students to use the computer. Be sure to allow the students to control the computer during your lessons.) 4. After you find out which computer you are going to use, then you need to check the computer to see if every thing on your website shows up and if your links connect. 5. If you are going to use a computer, or Promethean, or SMART Board in the media center, computer lab, or another classroom, then be sure that you have signed up or have permission to use it on the day and time you plan to teach your lesson. 6. If you are teaching small groups, ask your mentor teacher the names of the four students that you will teach, two students for lesson 1 and two different students for lesson 2. If you are teaching with the Promethean or SMART Board, ask your mentor teacher which students that you will be teaching. It could be whole class or small groups. You must teach your lesson two times with at least two different students for each lesson. If you are teaching a whole class lesson for your first lesson, then your second lesson should include at least two students. These students could be students that were not present during your first lesson or students that could benefit from reviewing the lesson again. 7. If you think your students will have problems with clicking the mouse , you can put a sticker on the left side of the mouse to show them where to click. (Sometimes the little ones have not used a computer, this is fine. It gives you an opportunity to assist someone at the beginning stages of technology.) 8. Get all of you materials ready for your lesson (see your list of materials on your lesson plan) 9. To help pace your lesson use index cards to write times for each of the sections of your lesson, such as: a. Step 1
- Introduction - 5 minutes (10:00-10:05)
b. Step 2 - Teaching PLO - 35 minutes (10:05-10:35) c. Step 3 - Closure - 5 minutes (10:35-10:45) 10. Use index cards to write important information & questions, such as: a. Introduction questions
11. Make your plans for
someone (mentor teacher, university supervisor, peer, or
self-evaluation with video) to observer each of your lessons.b. Questions for understanding that you want to be sure to ask or discuss c. Closure questions (important questions) 12. Bring to ECED 3000 class on April. 20, the copies of your two observation evaluations. |
