"Assistive Technology for Special Needs Students in My Classroom "

What if when you were about to begin your first teaching job, and you found out that you were going to have some students in your classroom with special needs.  You want to be the best teacher possible, so you are going to find out information about your special students and what you can do to assist your students.

A. To find solutions to this real-world classroom, we are going to do an in-class activity.
There will be four groups to address four areas of concern for special needs students:
1. Reading
2. Math
3. Writing
4. Social

B. After selecting an area of concern in section A, everyone in your group will gather information for that area.  Also everyone in your group will have a part in the presentation of your information to our class.  Be sure to include in your presentation:
1. Describe the problem or disability of your area of concern.
2. Describe the characteristics of a student with the disability in your area of concern.
3. Describe strategies and some assistive technologies that you could use with your students with the disability in your area of concern.

C. Your group can gather the information from special education and/or assistive technology web sites.  An excellent web site is Learning Disabilities & Assistive Technologies.
