COURSE DESCRIPTION
Pre-requisite: Admission into Teacher Education and strongly recommend a college level basic computer course, such as BVED 2400. Co-requisite: READ 3200.
ECED 3000 explores the integration and application of technology into the elementary curriculum. This is achieved through our learning community of: modeling and applying of teaching and learning strategies; discussions of technology and pedagogy (the art of teaching with technology); strategies of classroom management; the review and evaluation of technology and software appropriate for use with young children; and the development of integrated technology learning activities, which include Georgia's QCC Standards.
COLLEGE OF EDUCATION CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK PRINCIPLES
# 4 The teacher understands and uses a variety of instructional strategies to encourage students' development of critical thinking, problem solving, and performance skills.
# 6 The teacher uses knowledge of effective verbal, nonverbal, and media communication techniques to foster active inquiry, collaboration, and supportive interaction in the classroom.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
The student will:
1. demonstrate knowledge of various types of educational technology resources for classroom application. (CFP 4, 6)
2. demonstrate knowledge of criteria that can be used to determine appropriateness of educational technology resources suitable for use by young children in P-5 classrooms. (CFP 6)
3. evaluate educational software and other instructional technology resources to determine appropriateness for use in P-5 classrooms. (CFP 6)
4. demonstrate knowledge of applying educational technology resources and the designing of learning episodes for young children. (CFP 4, 6)
OVERVIEW OF COURSE
A. Collaborative Resource Sites: (CO 1, 2, 3) Students will develop collaborative resource sites that contains appropriate technology integrated activities that would be suitable for young children in grades P-5.
B. Educational Technology Integrated Projects: (CO. 1,4) The student will develop integrated content area technology projects for early childhood/elementary students. The projects will be presented and shared in class.
MATERIALS NEEDED
At least 6 formatted new disks. Be sure to label each disk with your name and the course number. A special disk holder for course disks is suggested.
A three ring notebook to develop a Technology Integrated Notebook from handouts, and hard copies of your web pages and your applied integrated activites.

10. Scanned Project of Elementary Students' Technology Integrated Activities and Reflections 100 points
11. In-Class Activities - These are the class technology integrated activities (grouped together) 100 points
12. In-Class Presentations of Technology Integrated Web Projects 100 points
The course Internet Bulletin Board will provide dates and detailed descriptions of assignments and activities.
ATTENDANCE POLICY
Attendance in this course is very important. Every class has many concepts and activites that may be difficult to make up. If you plan to be absent be sure to e-mail the instructor and make arrangements to make up assignments.
Attendance Policy in VSU Undergraduate Bulletin : "A student who
misses more then 20% of the scheduled
classes of a course will be subject to receiving a failing grade
in the course."
TARDINESS
It is best that you not be late for class because each class is fill with activites from beginning to end.
ASSIGNMENTS
All assignments to be submitted on time, 20% will be subtracted from your grade per week for work that is handed in after the due date.
If you feel you need assistance with your writing, the VSU Writing
Lab can assist you with your writing needs. It is your responsibility
to edit your work. Be sure to run Spell Check on
all your writings and web sites.
