Associate Professor of Management

Dr. Donna J. Cunningham

Donna J. Cunningham received her Juris Doctor degree from the John Marshall Law School in Chicago, Illinois, in 1981. She was one of the first women lawyers in the Chicago area to go into law practice in any significant numbers. She concentrated her practice in business law. Her clients included small, closely-held businesses and the wholly owned U.S. subsidiaries of German, Austrian and Swiss conglomerates.

After practicing business law for 20 years, she joined the faculty of Valdosta State University in 2002, and is now a tenured professor. Courses she has taught include the (Legal) Environment of Business, Business Law, Employment Law, Leadership Skills, International Business and International Human Resources Management. Research interests include business and constitutional law issues. In 2005, Dr. Cunningham taught two business courses in the European Council’s Study Abroad program, in Schwäbisch Gmünd, outside Stuttgart, Germany. International students are frequently invited to speak with her students.

Dr. Cunningham is a member of Phi Beta Kappa, Phi Kappa Phi, and Beta Gamma Sigma. She also recently served as President of her condominium association, and has served as president or vice-president of similar associations twice before. She has become an advocate of the need for re-establishing a sense of community in such self-governed associations, and this is another research interest.

Dr. Cunningham is the faculty advisor to VSU’s student team which competes in the international Eller Ethics Case Competition each year at the University of Arizona. Also, she is the academic advisor to the Psi Septaton Chapter of the Phi Sigma Kappa fraternity at VSU, an unexpected, but most interesting and enjoyable endeavor.
