My New Graphing Calculator…is my (i)Phone! (and other cool stuff)

This is an exciting time in the development of educational technologies for teaching mathematics.  Almost every instructor and student has a phone and many people have a smart phone.  Arguably one of the smartest smart phones is the iPhone, with its multitouch interface and ability to run desktop class applications including CAS and 2D and 3D graphics.  This platform, along with the phone-less iPod Touch, makes mobile computing a reality.  These smart devices give us the promise of being able to use a single device for communicating AND computing.

This presentation will provide an overview of some of the latest free and commercial applications for iPhone and other mobile devices that are appropriate for teaching and learning mathematics.  The presenter will invite a lively discussion as to the pros and cons of using these devices in a classroom setting.
