Something about me
My name is Colleen Heather Aldridge.  The "o" in my first name is a short "o" not a long "o".  I am a wife and a mother of three beautiful children.  My husband's name is James; we call him Randy (or daddy).  Susie is my oldest child.  She is seven and in the first grade.  Thomas is the middle child.  He is six and in kindergarten.  He and Susie are only eleven months apart in their age and very competitive.  James is the youngest and he is two years old and is very in charge.  I am speaking about me by speaking about my children because they are a part of me and my life.  Everything my children enjoy doing, I enjoy myself.  As long as I am with them, I am content.
I am not a native of Waycross, Georgia.  I have only lived in Waycross for a short time.  I was born and raised in Tallahassee, Florida and moved to Columbus, Georgia at the age of 21.  I moved there following my husband who was a Combat Engineer in the US Army.  We lived in Columbus for about seven years and then moved here in Waycross to be closer to his family in November of 2004.  We have both been able to pursue our college degrees since moving home and have been spending much more quality time with our children.

I am a Baptist Sunday School teacher and work heavily with the children's ministry at West Carswell Baptist Church.  I teach the teenagers, ages 13 through 19.  I love them and feel that I am here to help them with their choices in life.  I love what I do and love being there for "my kids."  It seems that everything I do revolves around children in some shape or form.  That seems to be the only way I am happy.

Why do I want to be a teacher.
At the age of five, I was placed in Mrs. Karen Manucy's kindergarten class at Woodville Elementary, in Woodville, Florida.  Mrs. Manucy was the type of teacher every parent dreams of having for their child, especially in the first year of school.  I was so blessed.  She was loving, stern, and affectionate.  She had every personality quality that great teachers posess.  I was in love with her and her job.  She treated every student fairly and truly made a difference in my life and others' lives as well.  When I was in her class and saw how much she taught and how well the students responded to her, even at that young age, I knew that I wanted to be a teacher like her.  I have always wanted to be a teacher.  I do love children.  That is not the only reason I want to teach.  I want to be someone that children can trust and confide in when they are frustrated.  I want to be able to find the problem and fix it when a child can't "get something" right.  If I make a difference in one child's life or education then I feel that everything I have done is worth it.

Who or what inspired me.
mom and kids
Sister-Kelly;   Mommy;   Me-Colleen
As a child, adolescent, young adult, and even now as a mom, and wife my parents have been my inspiration.  I see the tremendous leaps and bounds both my mom and dad have made in their lives and I know that I can do anything I want to do.  My mom married very young and had children before she finished college.  Yet after my sister and I began school she went back to school herself to finish college.  She became a "straight A" student and graduated with honors.  Now she is a very successful "technology and programming person" at Florida State University.  My mom and dad went from having very little in life to having whatever they want.

My father began his career in the military, and quickly moved into a position in the forestry service.  He married my mother at the age of 31 and after being married once before with three children already added two more to the bunch very quickly.  He owned his own business for about 12 years and then decided that a career in law enforcement was the way to go.  After many long hours of studying and lots of "A's" he became a deputy sheriff.
My parents have shown me by example that anything is possible in life if you put your mind to it.

My Favorite Places on the web:

target
Target

THE place to shop.  I will admit they don't have everything that Wal-mart has, however, the quality of their merchandise is much better.  I like to shop their because they carry a lot of items in their children and infant sections that other stores don't have.  They also have great clothes for adults, and have started to carry some grocery items also.  Too bad we don't have a Target in Waycross.

amazon
Amazon

Amazon is a wonderful place to go for any needs.  Amazon has books, clothing, textbooks, just about anything you could possibly think about.  The items available fit anybody's budget.  Just a wonderful site alltogether.

cat and hat
Seussville
This website is an excellent resource for teachers and parents alike.  There are many things for children to do and teachers to explore.  One of my favorite places!

piano
Piano, Piano, Piano
I have played the piano since around the age of six.  I took lessons until I was 18 and are now teaching my own children.  This is a great site for children and parents to explore the world of music and the influence of the piano on it.

TLC
Discovery's Learning Channel

The Learning Channel by Discovery is a great thing.  Not only on the TV, it is also a great resource for fun and games and further exploration into the content of the episodes on this network.
