List 2 or more questions that introduce students to your Mini-Research eBook that will establish a connection to students' prior knowledge by asking them:
1. "Have you ever used coins before?
2. "Can you tell me how much each coin is worth?"

Today we are going to read an eBook on the Internet.  I have made a special Mini-Research eBook on the Internet for your class.  (During discussion have students turn around away from the computer to interact.)

Estimated Time for Step One:

Step Two Teaching the Primary Learning Outcomes:
(Students will sit at the computer where they can control the mouse and computer.)  (Explain to students the process of the lesson.)  We are going to read my Mini-Research eBook and visit several websites about the different coins names and their value.

Check for understanding
Students with teacher assistance will read the Mini-Research eBook, explore, and discuss the information in the four linking websites that go with the Mini-Research eBook.  Ask students guiding questions about the important concepts in the Mini-Research eBook and the linking websites.   List four or more questions from each of your linking websites that will guide your students to gain information for your PLO.
1.  How much each penny is worth?
2.
Are pennies worth more than nickels?
3.  How many nickels is the same amount as a dime? What about pennies?
4.  How much each quarter is worth?

Practice and feedback related to the PLO
Read the Mini-Research eBook project to students.  Explain to students that they are going to match the coins I gave them to how much each candy is worth. Tell the students that the information that they will need to complete their Mini-Research eBook project is listed and connected in the Mini-Research eBook activity.  Review the information in the linked website in the Mini-Research eBook activity with the students to emphasize interesting and important information students will need to complete mission project.

Mini-Research eBook Real World Activity

The Activity:

Boys and girls now that you know how much each coin is worth lets match the candy to the coin amounts they are worth! I have a bag of different candies that are each worth different amounts. I will give you each 1 penny, 1 nickel, 1 dime and 1 quarter. You will have to match the candy amount to the correct coin that I give you in order to get the candy. Don't forget if you need to remember anything about the coins, you can go back to the pages we viewed before about each coin.

Directions: You will use manipulative's to match the candy to how much they are worth and say the name of the coin.

1) Match the pieces of candy with the correct coin.
2) Match the candy and the amount they are worth using the manipulative's. Then say the name of the coin you used.

Methods that students will use to present their eBook activity products:
Lesson 1 Method: Use manipulative's to match the candy with how much they are worth and tell the name of the coin.
