About Me

I joined the VSU faculty in 2005 as an Assistant Professor of Economics. In 2009, I was promoted to Associate Professor.  I have an undergraduate degree in Economics and Sociology from Berry College (1998) and a Ph.D. in Public Policy from the Georgia Institute of Technology (2003). Prior to my arrival at VSU, I worked as a Research Economist for the Regional Economic Analysis Division, Bureau of Economic Analysis, U.S. Department of Commerce, in Washington, DC.  In my current work at VSU, I teach Managerial Economics, Math for Economics, Sustainability: An Economic Perspective, and Principles of Microeconomics.  I have published 13 refereed articles, 2 refereed contributions to books on spatial processes, and editorials in the Washington Post and Valdosta Daily Times. In August 2008, I was named the Director of the Center for Business and Economic Research (formerly the South Georgia Institute), the business research arm of the Langdale College of Business Administration.  I also am responsible for the quarterly Cost-of-Living Index for Valdosta, which allows us to compare the cost of living in Valdosta to other metropolitan areas in the U.S.

Outside of economics, I am the Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Teal Sound Drum and Bugle Corps in Jacksonville, FL and a judge for the United States Scholastic Band Association (USSBA), the Florida Federation of Color Guards Circuit (FFCC), the Southern Association for the Performing Arts (SAPA), and the Atlantic Indoor Association (AIA).  I also coordinate all of the marching percussion activities for the VSU Blazin’ Brigade, which includes student recruitment, writing the percussion parts for the halftime shows at VSU football games, and instructing the drumline.

I live in Valdosta, GA with my wife Amelia and son Thoreau.
