 Welcome to Cory's World

Valdosta State University

Hi my name is Cory Harrell. I am 18 years old and a freshman at Valdosta State University. My major is currently Undecided although I am considering going into some kind of Business major. I grew up in Thomasville, Georgia and went to Thomas County Central High School. I played baseball for four years and was on the swim team for three. My mom's name is Sherry and my dad's name is Roger, and I have a younger sister named Ashley. I am attending Valdosta State University because a lot of my friends go here and it is the perfect size for me.

The Freshman Year Experience Program

Your freshman year experience at Valdosta State University is critical in laying the groundwork for a successful academic and professional career. Employers view a well rounded successful academic career as evidence that students can be equally successful and productive in their chosen fields. Success begins by mastering the three principal tasks of the first year student:

  • Academic Skills Development
  • Adjusting to College Life
  • Developing Academic & Career Goals

VSU’s Freshman Year Experience (FYE) is an outstanding student development program that assists first-year students to accomplish these tasks.  The program is designed primarily for students who have not yet decided on an academic major.

The Freshman Year Experience Program has affected my freshman year in many ways. I get put into classrooms with dependable teachers, meet many new people, and become involved in the Valdosta community. I feel my grades would not be as high if I had not done FYE and I would not have met as many people either. The program has helped aid me with decisions about my future classes, my major, and my career. I have learned essential study skills, Valdosta State University policies, and how to plan for my future. This program and experience has been a positive one and I would recommend it to all future students.
