Procedures:
Step One: Introduction
Have a small group of students go to a computer.  Explain to students that you are going to use the computer to read an Mini-Research eBook about
community workers. List 2 or more questions that introduce students to your Mini-Research eBook that will establish a connection to students' prior knowledge by asking them:
1. "
Does anyone know what any of these items are used for?" (Holding up items listed in materials)
2. "
Can you think of why these items might be important to a fire fighter, police officer, postal worker, or doctor?”
Today we are going to learn about
community workers on the Internet.  I have made a special Mini-Research eBook on the Internet for your class.  (During discussion have students turn around away from the computer to interact.)

Estimated Time for Step One:
5 minutes

Step Two Teaching the Primary Learning Outcomes:
(Students will sit at the computer where they can control the mouse and computer.)  (Explain to students the process of the lesson.)  After we read the Mini-Research eBook and visit several websites about
community workers students will complete statagey activity about one of the community workers of his or her choice.

Check for understanding
Students with teacher assistance will read the Mini-Research eBook, explore, and discuss the information in the four linking websites that go with the Mini-Research eBook.  Ask students guiding questions about the important concepts in the Mini-Research eBook and the linking websites.   List four or more questions from each of your linking websites that will guide your students to gain information for your PLO.
1.  Who can tell me what challenges a postal worker might have?
2.  Why are fire fighters so important and what is one thing we can do to prevent fires?
3.  What are some of the jobs that police officers may do each day?

4.  Who should you call if you are sick and need medicine to make you feel better?

Practice and feedback related to the PLO
Read the Mini-Research eBook project to students.  Explain to students that they are going to
community workers for a day.  They will draw a picture on paint program of the community worker they selected completing a job that he or she does. The picture needs to include objects that he or she will need trough out the day to be successful in doing this. Students must provide a sentence or two explaining their picture. Tell the students that the information that they will need to complete their Mini-Research eBook project is listed and connected in the Mini-Research eBook activity.  Review the information in the linked website in the Mini-Research eBook activity with the students to emphasize interesting and important information students will need to complete mission project.

Match the community worker with not only their jobs but with the tool they might use to complete their jobs. Then use the paint program to draw your favorite community worker. Be sure to label what worker you are!

Estimated Time for Step Two:
35 minutes

Step Three
Closure:
Have students discuss their Mini-Research eBook activity and information they found on the Internet.  Tell students that your Mini-Research eBook Website is on the Internet and they can visit the website at school or home.  Explain to students that you are going to put their pictures and information on the Internet and they will be able to share their mission projects with their friends and family.  (If possible teacher should take brief notes during the lesson and concluding discussions to be added later to the assessment and reflections in lesson plan.)

Estimated Time for Step Three:
5 minutes

Accommodation:
This will be turned in as an in-class activity.

1. Comment on your teaching of how your Mini-Research eBook Lesson created learning experiences and activities that implemented the use a variety of resources and technologies.
At the start  of the lesson students were given  a variety  of  manipulative's (toys that represent  tools or ideas of a number of community workers) to explore before the lesson began. This gave students time to explore and apply prior knowledge that they may already contain about community workers. The students also had to manipulate and explore websites used to teach the lesson to gain knowledge that will be assessed later in the lesson.

2. State evidence to show that your students gained knowledge during your Mini-Research eBook Lesson.
Students were able to match the tools (toys) with the proper community worker along with correctly answer a variety of questions asked by the instructor. at the end students were able to communicate the ideas and jobs done by community workers in not only and illustration but in a sentence that helped explain the illustration. The students were able to share stories about community workers that related to his or her everyday life such as making the connection that a family member held one of the positions discussed in lesson.

3. Give at least one suggestion that would lead to improving your teaching practices and student achievement.
I think a change that could have brought more life to my lesson may have been to dress myself in costume of what one of the community workers might wear. i think this would have got the students more interested. i also would have liked to go back and let the students spend more time on website with less direction by the instructor. i feel like the lesson was a bit rushed and therefor could have been improved on.
