Hello and Welcome
to the home page of Bethany Brett
I decided that I wanted to work
with children with special needs
when I was very young. In high school, I volunteered in a special
education classroom to get some experience. I fell in love with the
children and decided that working with them was what I wanted to do for
the rest of my life. I
am a junior at Valdosta
State University
studying
Special
Education and Early Childhood. The plan is to graduate with my
undergraduate in May 2010 and graduate with a Master's degree in May
2011.
In life, there are many things that make us who we are. For me, I am a
Christian, a daughter, a sister, a friend, a student, a
co-worker, and an RA (resident assistant), a Valdosta State Blazer... and one day soon, I will be a
teacher. Each role I play takes me on an exciting journey through life.

Life is a journey and it has taken
me several wonderful places. Because I was homeschooled all my life, I
had more
flexiblity to travel. When I was younger, my parents would take me and
my brothers on "educational vacations". In high school, I attended a
classical school for
homeschoolers. Every year for Spring Break, we
would go on a trip to Europe. For my four years in high school, I
traveled to many wonderful places, including Italy, Austria, Germany
and England. Once I got to college, I was very interested in studying
abroad. The opportunity finally came May 2008 when I was able to study
abroad in the Czech Republic
through the VSU
Psychology and Counseling
department. I really enjoy explore new and wonderful places
and discovering different cultures.

As
a future teacher, I am always interested in websites that will help me
do the very best in teaching my students. One very important aspect of
being a teacher of students with special needs is knowing what the law
requires of me as a service provider to these students. Wrightslaw is a very helpful
website that explains in the Individuals with Disabilites Education Act
and other laws in
laymen's terms.
Another helpful website for teachers is Teacher Planet. There never
seems to be
enough time during the day for most teacher. Why spend precious minutes
reinventing the wheel? Use this site as a quick stop to getting
exciting ideas, activities, games, worksheets, and much more.
