Valdosta State University

Hi my name is Andrew Waller. I am 18 years old, and a freshman at Valdosta State University. I plan on majoring in Sports Business to become a team manager for a college or professional sports team. Being at Valdosta State has been one of the best experiences of my life, and I plan on staying here as long as I can. I am originally from Louisiana, but moved to Thomasville, GA where i have lived for 9 years. I have three brothers (14, 13, 5) and a sister (16), and four pets.  I enjoy playing and watching sports, and I plan on walking on for the football team here at Valdosta State. One of my dreams as a little kid was to play college athletics, so if I make the team that would be a dream come true.

The Freshman Year Experience Program

Your freshman year experience at Valdosta State University is critical in laying the groundwork for a successful academic and professional career. Employers view a well rounded successful academic career as evidence that students can be equally successful and productive in their chosen fields. Success begins by mastering the three principal tasks of the first year student:

  • Academic Skills Development
  • Adjusting to College Life
  • Developing Academic & Career Goals

VSU’s Freshman Year Experience (FYE) is an outstanding student development program that assists first-year students in accomplishing these tasks.  The program is designed primarily for students who have not yet decided on an academic major.

I would recommend this program to any incoming freshman that are planning on coming to Valdosta State. This program has been really beneficial for me to make very close friends. By having every class together we get to know each other better than we would if we just had one class together. It makes it easier to adjust to such a different environment. Also, the classes that FYE puts us in are very fun; they always pick out the best teachers for the people in this program.
