Have a small group of students go to a computer.  Explain to students that you are going to use the computer to read an Mini-Research eBook about Thanskgiving.  List 2 or more questions that introduce students to your Mini-Research eBook that will establish a connection to students' prior knowledge by asking them:
1. "Have you ever studied or read a book about Thanksgiving?"
2. "Can you tell me about some things you know about Thanksgiving?"
Today we are going to read an eBook on the Internet.  I have made a special Mini-Research eBook on the Internet for your class.  (During discussion have students turn around away from the computer to interact.)

Estimated Time for Step One:
5 minutes

Step Two Teaching the Primary Learning Outcomes:
(Students will sit at the computer where they can control the mouse and computer.)  (Explain to students the process of the lesson.)  We are going to read my Mini-Research eBook and visit several websites.

Check for understanding
Students with teacher assistance will read the Mini-Research eBook, explore, and discuss the information in the four linking websites that go with the Mini-Research eBook.  Ask students guiding questions about the important concepts in the Mini-Research eBook and the linking websites.   List four or more questions from each of your linking websites that will guide your students to gain information for your PLO.
1.  How did the Pilgrims get to America?
2. What did the Pilgrims see when they got here?
3.Why did the Pilgrims and the Indians celebrate for the first Thankgiving?
4.  What kinds of food did the Pilgrims and the Indians eat for their celebration?
5.  What was the Pilgrims and Indians thankful for?

Practice and feedback related to the PLO
Read the Mini-Research eBook project to students.  Explain to students that they are going to be reporters for their class, and they will identify the people or events of Thanksgiving.   Tell the students that the information that they will need to complete their Mini-Research eBook project is listed and connected in the Mini-Research eBook activity.  Review the information in the linked website in the Mini-Research eBook activity with the students to emphasize interesting and important information students will need to complete mission project.

Let's Go Back in Time!
The local news station needs our help! The manager of the news station needs someone to go back in time to the 1600's to report about the First Thanksgiving! He is running low on reporters and he needs SOMEONE to do the job!  He's on a tight schedule and he needs you to tell our town about the Pilgrims and the Indians.  We have to get in our time machine and we need go back in time.  Quickly! Get in before it is too late! Who do you see?  What are they doing? When you are finished, be sure to bring all of your reports back to the manager of the new station so he can put it on the news!
Lesson 2 Directions
1. I will give you each a sheet of construction paper.
2. As reporters, you have to tell me what you saw at the First Thanksgiving.  You are going to draw a picture that shows an event that happened. You can draw the Pilgrims meeting together with the Indians.  You can draw the Pilgrims and Indians celebrating the First Thanksgiving and giving thanks over the feast.
3. After you draw your picture, write a sentence that tells what the picture is showing. Use this link about
The Thanksgiving Story to help you with the events!
4. Write another sentence about the purpose of the First Thanksgiving.  Why did the First Thanksgiving occur or happen?

Evaluation of Students
Student Performance
Level
Descriptions of Students' Evidence that Illustrate the Achieved Performance Level of the PLO
(* To receive full credit description must include minimum of two sentences and a detailed example of the students' evidence.)

I placed this student at this performance level because although we did not have time to finish his sentences, he needed very little to no help from the teacher.  He worked quietly by himself.  In his picture about Thanksgiving, he drew Pilgrims and Indians around a table.  His Pilgrim was evident in his drawing because he drew a Pilgrim hat on top of it as a way of showing how the Pilgrims dressed.  He knew that Thanksgiving was to give thanks but did not remember the importance of the successful crops.

I placed this student at this performance level because although she did enjoy the activity, her picture was more about HER Thanksgiving, and not the First Thanksgiving between the Pilgrims and the Indians.  The task was to draw and write about the First Thanksgiving. Although her picture showed her Thanksgiving and why she liked Thanksgiving, she was off task.

1. Comment on your teaching of how your Mini-Research eBook Lesson created learning experiences and activities that implemented the use a variety of resources and technologies.  (* To receive full credit description must include a minimum of two sentences and a detailed example.)
The students enjoyed this lesson because of the use of technology that was integrated into the lesson.  They were engaged because they were able to help me with the Smartboard to change the pages and talk about the pictures on the slideshow.  In addition, the activity was familiar to their strategies that they use daily while writing. For example, every day the students have to write for 15 minutes before reading time.  They have to practice finger spaces and spelling.  It was evident that the activity was something familiar to something they had been working on.

2. State evidence to show that your students gained knowledge during your Mini-Research eBook Lesson.  (* To receive full credit description must include a minimum of two sentences and a detailed example.)
I could see that my children gained knowledge during my lesson because after my lesson, my mentor teacher read a book on Thanksgiving to the children.  Before reading the book, she asked the children a little bit about Thanksgiving to see what they knew.  My mentor teachers asked who took part in the First Thanksgiving and one of the students that I taught my lesson to raised her hand and said the Indians and the Pilgrim men.  It was evident that he had learned SOMETHING during that lesson.

3. Give at least one suggestion that would lead to improving your teaching practices and student achievement.  (* To receive full credit description must include a minimum of two sentences and a detailed example.)

I am working on estimating the times of my lessons based on what exactly I will be doing with my students.  I am trying NOT to go over my time.  My lesson did not last as long as I had planned.  So for future lessons, I want to have other activities planned in case my lesson is too short.  These lessons will have to be on topic and educational for the children.
