Each student was asked to find a circle, a triangle, a square, and
a rectangle. This group had to glue the shape in a section on their
paper and write what the shape was, then with crayons draw a picture
of something found in the classroom. She looked around the
room and drew the shapes she saw. Also, she wrote what each object was.

She started by picking the circle. The first circle she found was the clock, so
she drew it on her paper. I asked her how she knew it was a circle and
she told me, because it was round with no sides.
Triangles were hard to find. She remembered in the game that the
triangle made up the side of the swing set. She looked around the
room and saw that the easel looked like a triangle from the side.
For a square, she picked the calender. The calender was not a sqaure. I asked her why not, and she told me that the sides were not the same. I asked her to
circle the square, so she circled the individual day on the calender.
In the classroom, Mrs. Brostrom had several large chart paper
pictures and venn-diagrams. This student picked one of them to
represent her rectangle.

This student wanted to start by finding a triangle. Her first object was a star.
The star was not a triangle, but she told me it had a triangle on it. I asked her
to circle the triangle on the star.
She told me that there were a lot of rectangles in the room. The one she
picked was the smartboard. She told me it was not a square because
the sides were not the same.
When she was looking for a square she saw the T.V screen. The T.V screen had
four sides that were all the same.
Unlike the other students, she did not pick the clock for a circle. She looked
all around the room. I think this shape took the longest to find. She looked
at the calender wall, and told me the Weather Wheel was shaped
like a circle.
