Evaporation

Since the water cycle is never ending, we can jump in anywhere, so let’s begin with EVAPORATION.  When the sun hits the Earth and warms the water in puddles, ponds, rivers, lakes and oceans, the water (liquid) turns to water vapor or steam (gas), rises into the air and that is how evaporation occurs.

Fun Fact:  Scientists estimate water molecules that evaporate spend about 10 days floating around the atmosphere before they fall back to Earth as some form of precipitation; either snow, sleet, hail  or rain.

The Kidzone website will give you water cycle info that's important and fun and has some great activities to help you practice your knowledge!
