Our faculty and students are both scholars and feminist activists with a vision of social justice. As such, we are commited to:
Working toward centering those who are marginalized and vulnerable
Promoting an approach to women’s issues that integrates race, class, sexuality, nationality, citizenship, age, ability and other markers of social inequity
Recognizing and challenging the operation of power and privilege, both within the campus and in the broader society
Actively challenging sexism, racism, heterosexist bias, and class privilege
Ensuring that those most affected by policies and practices are at the decision-making table
Informing the community that the struggle for gender justice and women’s human rights is global
Women and Gender Studies students help organize and implement annual social justice events such as the Intimate Partner Violence Awareness Month Clothesline and Handprint projects, Purple Ribbon Campaign, VSU V-Day: The Vagina Monologues, and the Take Back the Night March.
