The American Musicale
The roots of the American Musicale are nearly as old as Sinfonia itself. One of the driving forces behind the creation of the Sinfonia was the disparity between American Schools of Music and their European counterparts. At the turn of the 20th Century, American conservatories were viewed as inferior to those in Europe. For a musician to be taken seriously, he had to study in Europe. The founders of the Sinfonia realized that through brotherhood in music, they could advance the state of American conservatories. The American Musicale grew out of this desire to promote American music. By performing concerts devoted entirely to the music of American composers, the brothers of Phi Mu Alpha are able to continue the promotion of American music as viable, credible, and worthy art.
