The Mu Omicron Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Incorporated was founded on May 31, 1976 at Valdosta State Campus now known as Valdosta State University by 8 Outstanding Men known as the “Charter Brothers”.

The Men of Mu Omicron strongly believe in giving back to the community. We participate in various community service projects such as Red Cross Blood Drive, Habitat for Humanity, Mentoring Students at J.L. Newbern Middle School, Lomax-Pineville Elementary School, and Head Start Program, Bone Marrow Drive, Donations to the Haven, Adopt a Family Foundation, Adopt a Highway Program located on Bemiss Road in Valdosta, Georgia, and A Voteless People is a Hopeless People just to name a few.

In April 2006, The Mu Omicron Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. celebrated its 30th anniversary. The Fraternity was founded on December 4, 1906 at Cornell University, Ithaca, New York. The local chapter was established at Valdosta State College on May 31, 1976.

While a number of fraternity chapters across the country are dealing with negative press due to hazing, the Mu Omicron chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha continues to set high standards in scholarship and service on campus and throughout the Valdosta community.

Former Chapter President, Samuel S. Taylor, “The current brothers of Mu Omicron are involved in every aspect of campus life such as: Resident Assistants, SGA Senators, VSU Mass Choir Members, All American Football & National Champion Winners, SIFE (Students In Free Enterprise), Alpha Phi Omega Community Service Organization, and various honor societies.”

In 2005 the chapter won the National Excellence in Service Award at their National Convention. “The VSU faculty also views us as leaders around campus and responsible young men. We uphold this by never being in trouble with Nationals or Valdosta State University from 1976 to 2006,” Taylor adds.
