Special Events

Volunteer Valdosta

A half-day service opportunity that is held the day before fall semester begins. This event allows incoming and returning students the chance to discover different community agencies while meeting new friends.

Community Roundup

This event takes place at The Happening in the beginning of fall semester. All the participating community agencies will be centralized at The Happening to allow students to familiarize themselves with all the available volunteer opportunities. The students will also have a chance to sign up and volunteer at the different agencies.

Homelessness and Hunger Awareness Week

This is a week long event that explores the issues of homelessness and poverty. Activities include a hunger banquet, brown bag seminars, a simulated homeless campout, and much more.

Rivalry Blood Drive

During the week of the West Georgia football game, VSU students compete with West Georgia to see who can donate the most units of blood. An award is given during the football game to the school that donates the most units. This is a great way to show school pride as well as help the American Red Cross.

Holiday Helper

A campus wide project that takes place in the months of November and December. This event gives students, faculty, and staff the opportunity to help out community members in need by donating gifts to designated community agencies.

Trash-to-Treasure

When moving out of the residence halls, students throw away a considerable amount of items that could be used by specific agencies. The staff of Volunteer Services collects the students’ "trash" in bins to be given to agencies in the Valdosta community.
