Emerging Leader Program 2008 Information
The Emerging Leaders Program is an opportunity for first semester students to get involved on campus and assist in acquiring skills to successfully hold leadership positions throughout their collegiate experience. The Emerging Leader Program is dedicated to assisting in the development of VSU’s brightest and most diverse students. The program provides students with an opportunity for relationship and resource building while gaining an understanding of leadership theory. Goals of the program include leadership development that engage in theoretical and practical perspectives.
The Emerging Leader Program encourages student participation in campus life and student organizations.
The program begins with an overnight retreat (mandatory) the week before classes begin, followed by a specially designed class for the Fall semester, and a variety of organized activities to get students involved on campus.

Components of the Program
- Pre-semester 2-day Retreat (mandatory)
Participate in a series of team building activities, an opportunity to meet your classroom instructors and many make new friends. - Classroom Component
Provides a small group environment designed for interactive learning. It is a collaboration of instructors and peers who are dedicated to assisting freshmen navigate their first year of college. This classroom experience will be your ticket to learn how to succeed in college, become an involved student, and earn 2 elective credits that will count toward your GPA and HOPE requirements. In addition, students selected for the program will also be automatically enrolled in two additional freshman core classes - Campus/Community Service Activities
You will participate in community service projects and various campus events to broaden your collegiate and leadership opportunities.
How To Join The Program
- Complete the online application and submit; Online application will be available in April.
- Printed applications will also be mailed to each student along with their Orientation registration material in April; students can complete the application of their choice.
- All applications for consideration must be received by May 23, 2008.
