BSL is open to all students of the Valdosta State University Community. We host bi-weekly meetings on Tuesday evenings in the Odum Library Auditorium. Our purpose is to unite the minorities at Valdosta State University in an effort to solve academic, cultural, and social problems that minorities face. We also strive to encourage cultural and historic awareness as well as pride in ethnicity. Membership is open to all students who are sincerely concerned with minority issues and have a passionate interest in the betterment of our society. This year a major topic was voter registration. Students were given the opportunity to register to vote and change their voting address in order to vote in Valdosta. The HappeningThe Happening: This event has been hosted for 18 years by Valdosta State University in an effort to inform students about life on and off campus. Black Student League has taken part in the event for all 18 years.
Legacy Award ScholarshipThis scholarship was founded 2 years ago and is given to one high school and one college student, both of which are minorities. The scholarship was founded to give disadvantaged minorities the opportunity to attend college without the stress of monetary problems. So far 2 scholarships for $500 have been awarded and we plan to expand this scholarship to be given to four students per year in the next few years. Contact Us: vsu_bsl@yahoo.com |
