Zeta Tau AlphaZeta Tau Alpha was founded October 15, 1898, by nine women at the State Female Normal School in Farmville, Virginia. Only 14-15 years of age, these young women desired permanence in their friendships and hoped to perpetuate their sisterhood long after college. The purpose of Zeta Tau Alpha is to intensify friendship, promote happiness among its members, to perform such deeds, and to mold such opinions as will conduce to the building up of a purer and nobler womanhood in the world.
The Eta Iota Chapter of Zeta Tau Alpha came to Valdosta State University on May 22, 1971. Working with Yoplait yogurt's campaign, “Save Lids to Save Lives,” Eta Iota raises money for their philanthropy which is Breast Cancer Education and Awareness. One of their big philanthropy projects on campus is called, "Big Man on Campus,” which is a humorous beauty pageant that several men compete in. Last year alone, this event raised over $7,000. Other philanthropy projects include their annual “Pink Out,” which is held at the one of the Blazer football games during the fall and their annual Dodge Ball Tournament in the spring.
