About Us |
|
Valdosta State College accepted its first Black students following 1963. The number of students totaled three initially, and from that time until the 1968 school year, enrollment slowly increased. It was at this time in 1968 that the Black students on this campus decided to organize and promote unity among them. Later, in 1970, the name of the organization was changed to the Black Student League. |
The Black Student League is a student-run organization at Valdosta State University. Membership is open to all VSU students. Black Student League offers leadership positions and training to our members. We encourage our members to participate in service activities in the Valdosta area to make a difference in their community. |
Black Student League is a member of the National Black Student Union, orginating in 1940. Campus officials found it useful and often necessary to work through student organizations and leaders in order to mold student opinion along the lines of administrative directives. Dormitories, social clubs, fraternities and sororities shaped the views and conduct of students. These groups and others at black colleges helped to maintain the system of discipline. Our members are a dedicated & highly motivated group of individuals. It is through their hard work and great attitudes that we are able to propel forward.
