Who attends orientation?
First-year and Transfer undergraduate students attend orientation.

How do I register for orientation?
You can register and pay for orientation on-line Instructions or by returning your completed reservation form (that was mailed to your home) and payment to the office of orientation.

What is a confirmation letter and where do I get it?
A confirmation letter contains information about the orientation session that you registered for. It has the session date and times, the number of guests attending, meeting location, and payment verification. Whether you register on-line or by mail, all confirmation letters will be sent to the student's VSU Blazenet email If you check your Blazenet email account, and you do not have a confirmation letter, there could be a problem with your registration. Please call our office for help (#229-333-5941).

Can I register for orientation now and pay the fee later at the door?
No. Your payment secures your seat for an orientation session. Without a payment of the full amount due, your registration is incomplete and our system will not recognize it.

Can Transfer students attend general sessions?
Yes. Transfer students are welcome at general sessions, but must stay for the entire session.

How is my orientation fee used?
Your fee is used to cover the costs of the VSU orientation program. The fee covers the use of facilities, student and parent orientation publications, materials, and meals.

Can I bring more than two guests?
No. Approximately 225 students attend each general orientation session. Each student is allowed two guests because that is the maximum number our facilities support.

Do I have to stay for the entire orientation session?
Yes. Students are expected to stay for the entire session.

Where will I park for orientation?
The Oak Street Parking Deck, located at the corner of Brookwood and Oak Street. There is no charge.

Will I have to pay tuition the day of orientation?
No. During the orientation session you will receive a payment schedule for tuition and fees.

Will I learn who my roommate will be at orientation?
It depends on which orientation session you attend. Housing assignments will be made sometime in June.

Will I get to register for classes at orientation?
Yes. You will meet with your academic advisor and learn how to log into the BANNER system and register for classes.

Can children attend orientation?
Parents are encouraged to attend orientation, as it is an excellent opportunity for family members to learn about VSU and get questions answered. Families may not want to bring small children due to the format of the program. All guests will be charged a $20 fee, and all students are limited to two guests.

Can my parents attend the academic advising session with me?
No. These sessions are designed to provide an opportunity for the student to develop an independent relationship with their department advisor. While students are meeting with advisors and registering for classes, parents attend a session designed to address their questions and concerns.

What do I do if I or one of my guests need special accommodations for an orientation session?
Call the office of orientation (#229-333-5941) as soon as possible so we can make arrangements with our Access Office for Students with Disabilities

What if I need to change my orientation date?
Call the Orientation office (#229-333-5941) as soon as possible to inform us of the change. We will make the change at the end of the day, and depending on the availability of the session. You will not be able to make the change on-line.

How does the office of orientation process refunds?
Our office does not issue refunds. If you decide you are not coming to VSU, please inform the Office of Admissions (#229-333-5941). The Office of Admissions will then notify the Office of Orientation of this change. We will credit your VSU student Banner account the money you paid for an orientation session. This credit in your Banner account will generate an excess check. Contact the Bursary for details (#229-333-5725)

If I register and pay for guests but none attend, will I get my money back?
No. The orientation office orders and pays for guest meals in advance of a session and our numbers are based on the number of registered guests.

Can I bring my pet to an orientation session?
No. Animals are not permitted in VSU facilities.

What should I bring to my orientation session?

  • Confirmation letter of registration and payment for orientation session
  • Two forms of identification for VSU student I. D. card (one must be a government issued photo)
  • Vehicle Registration Information for VSU parking decal
  • Comfortable clothes, Walking Shoes, and a light jacket for airconditioned buildings
  • Umbrella (in case of rain)
