WATER is crucial to YOU
- Do you drink water everyday?
- Do you think you drink enough?
- Do you know why water is beneficial to your body?
- Do you often drink caffeinated drinks that actually take away water from your body?
Why should I?
Water is the most important drink. It is in every tissue, cell, and organ and is crucial to your body. You may survive up to six weeks without food but you WILL NOT last a week without water. There are many reasons why water is essential to your health:
- Joints need water to stay in motion
- Vital organs (kidneys, liver, brain & heart) need it to work right
- Keeps your skin looking healthy and hydrated
- Your blood is thinner & easier to pump; your heart doesn’t have to work as hard
- Helps “wash out” any toxins in your body
- Gives you more energy
- Carries important nutrients and oxygen to cells in the body
- Keeps a regulated body temperature
- Reduces your risk of a heart attack
- Prevents constipation and helps you “stay regular”
- Helps burn fat and build muscle
- If you have a cold, it thins out mucus
- Helps you be preventative against sickness
- Helps get rid of headaches
- Helps with short term memory
- Helps you focus
How much?
The list goes on and on…. So drink your water daily! It is recommended to drink 8 glasses of water a day. However, depending on the amount of time you exercise, your environment, your health, and several other factors, you may need MORE! Are you curious if you are drinking enough? Take a look at your urine; if it’s yellow or orange, you are probably not getting enough water. Your urine should look clear! “If you don't get enough water, the body goes into emergency mode, and clings to every single water molecule it can find”, reports the University of Minnesota Water Resources Center.
