Helping Your Friends Stay Safe

It’s that time again… “Spring Break here we come!”

Last year we focused on stranger-danger and alcohol abuse; this year we would like to focus on:

HELPING YOUR FRIENDS STAY SAFE DURING SPRING BREAK!

Remind your friends that being safe will help you have the best spring break you could ask for! Reminders to help your friends stay safe:

Sun Protection                                                                       

  • Make sure to apply sunscreen with a SPF of 15 or higher 30 minutes before getting in the sun
  • Reapply sunscreen after swimming, drying off with a towel, or sweating profusely
  • Wear sunglasses that block 99-100% of UVA and UVB radiation
  • Wear chap-stick with an SPF of 15
  • Be careful of too much sun exposure if you are on certain medications
  • Beware of too much sun between the sun’s strongest hours of 10am-4pm
  • Drink plenty of water
  • Be aware of redness, dizziness or other sun exhaustion signs

Party Time

  • Don’t leave your drink unattended
  • Have an accountability partner
  • Don’t drink and drive
  • Take your friends keys if they want to drink and drive
  • Don’t accept open containers from others
  • Have a taxi number on hand
  • Be prepared with condoms if there’s a chance of sexual intercourse

  • If you’re concerned about your friend, DON’T IGNORE IT!
  • Use I-Statements to tell your friend how you feel.
  • Be caring, but be firm.
