Healthy Habit for June

Hand Washing Tips

When to Wash:

• After using the bathroom

• Before eating

• Before, during, and after handling or preparing food

• After touching something that could be contaminated (such as a trashcan, cleaning cloth, drain, or soil)

• After handling animals, their toys, leashes, or waste

• After contact with blood or bloody fluids (like vomit, nasal secretions, or saliva)

• More often when someone in your home is sick

How to Wash:

• Wet your hands and apply soap

• Rub hands together vigorously to make a lather and scrub all surfaces

• Continue for 20 seconds! Need a timer? Sing “Happy Birthday” to yourself twice

• Rinse hands well under running water

• Dry hands using a paper towel or air dry

• If possible, use your paper towel to turn off the faucet and to exit the bathroom
