Campus Communications Board Meeting minutes 1/27/06

The Campus Communications Board was called to order by Chair, Russ Mast.  Members present were Jason Adams, Octavia Meyers, John Wright, Charles Harmon, Robin Vickery, Michael Taylor, Dr. Pat Miller, Johnna Pinholster, Marcela Gonzales, Dr. Michael Capece and Russell Mast (chair).

Approval of Minutes:  A request for a motion for the approval of the minutes from the December 2, 2005 meeting was made by Russ Mast (chair).  The motion for approval was made by Jason Adams and a second was made by Dr. Michael Capece.

Reports from Campus Media

  • Spectator:      $49,000 in ad sales.  Purchased new chairs and a new printer for the Spectator offices.  Will attend GCPA on February 3rd, 4th, and 5th.
  • Odradek:        No Report.
  • WVVS:           New logo finalized and ordered t-shirts with new logo.  Moving towards BLAZE FM and away from V91.  Under way for Spring   semester and schedules are up.

Old Business:

  • A request for a motion for the approval of the Communications Board application was made by Russ Mast (chair).  The motion for approval was made by Robin Vickery and a second was made by Dr. Pat Miller.  Approval was unanimous.
  • A request for a motion for the approval of the Communications Board By-laws was made by Russ Mast (chair).  The motion for approval was made by Michael Taylor and a second was made by Robin Vickery.  Approval was unanimous.

New Business:

  • Set dates and times for advertising, application deadline and interviews for thefollowing positions:  Spectator Editor(s), WVVS Station Manager, and Odradek Editor(s).  Advertising for applications will begin on Thursday, February 23, 2006.
  • Application deadline will be noon Friday, March 10, 2006.  Interviews will be Friday, March 24, 2006 at 12:30 PM.
  • Next Communications Board Meeting will be Friday, February 17, 2006 at 1:00 PM.
  • Last Communications Board Meeting of the semester will be Friday, April 21, 2006 at 1:00 PM.
  • Russ Mast announced that the Recreational Fields should be ready for Soccer by the end of February.
  • Russ Mast announced that Sodexho was selected as the new food service provider for campus.
  • Russ Mast announced that the Pedestrian Mall should be finished in March.
  • Russ Mast announced that on August 18, 2006 there will be a celebration on the front lawn to kick-off the Centennial Celebration.
  • Russ Mast announced that the New Student Union committee is looking into hiring a consultant to look into the feasibility of renovating the Old Gym verses tearing down the current Union.  Michael Taylor stated that if WVVS equipment needed to be relocated it would take a minimum of nine months to two years for the FCC to complete this task.
  • Russ Mast announced that the African American Lecture series would begin in February.
  • John Wright announced that the campus College Bowl tournament will be held Friday, January 27, 2006.
  • John Wright announced that CAB would be sponsoring a Poker Tournament Tuesday, February 7, 2006.
  • Jason Adams announced that the Emerging Leaders would be sponsoring two Leadership Conferences.  The first would be held Saturday, January 28, 2006 for high school students.  And the second would be held Saturday, February 18, 2006.

The meeting was adjourned at 12:25 PM.
