DIRECTOR

Dr. Chere Peguesse
Ph.D., Rhetoric, Composition, and the Teaching of English,
The University of Arizona; 2000
M.A., English,
The University of Arizona; 1991
B.A., English,
The University of Arizona; 1989
Dr. Peguesse came to the VSU English Department in 2000, and has enjoyed her teaching, her colleagues,
and the campus culture here very much. She particularly likes working with students one-on-one, which
is what attracted her—since graduate school days--to working with tutors. She directed the VSU Writing
Center for two years, then volunteered to work as interim director for the Student Success Center, which absorbed all the tutoring departments operating for core courses. She’s lived a lot of places like Hawaii
and Turkey (Air Force brat), rescued two dogs from the pound, and makes seriously delicious Vietnamese
Spring Rolls.
Academic Advisors

Mrs. Alicia Richards Roberson
M.S., Marriage and Family Therapy,
Valdosta State University; 2005
B.F.A., Speech Communication,
Valdosta State University; 2003
Alicia moved to Valdosta in 1999 to attend VSU as an undergraduate. During her time as a student she was
involved in Campus Activities Board, the Freshman Year Experience, Orientation, and Wesley Foundation.
During graduate school, Alicia fell in love with working with students as an academic advisor and decided
to pursue work in higher education. Before working in the SSC Alicia worked as an Admissions Counselor
of transfer students. Alicia feels being an advisor is an important role in the life of a student, because the
advisor has the opportunity to build a relationship that empowers each student to take control of their academic goals.
