Social Work Career Day

Information for Current Students & Practicum Agencies

February 6, 2009 - Social Work Career Day: Career Day is a full day of information about social work. The morning portion includes presentations for Prospective students on social work as a career, MSW coursework, field practicums, admissions and a faculty panel.

There is an optional luncheon with social work agency representatives, current MSW students, prospective MSW students, Division of social work faculty and staff, and campus representatives.

In the afternoon, approximately 35 Social Work Agencies will be available in a Career Fair format to discuss opportunities for field placements and/or careers in their organizations. There will be many opportunities for informal discussions and question/answer time throughout the day.

Current MSW Students: All current MSW students are invited to attend Social Work Career Day - no reservation is necessary unless you plan to participate in the optional lunch ($10 in advance paid to Mrs. Kyles). Students planning to enter concentration practicum in the Fall of 2009 are required to attend.

Social Work Agency Representatives: Invitations for the Career Fair will be mailed to Social Work agencies that regularly host Valdosta State University practicum students. There will also be a Field Instructor Workshop the morning of Career Day. If you are an agency representative and would like a table at the career fair - or wish to participate in the Field Instructor Workshop, please return the reservation card or call Mrs. Gwen Kyles at the Division of Social Work (229-249-4864).

If you are a Social Work Agency Representative and interested in discussing the possibility of hosting a Valdosta State University Master of Social Work practicum student in the future, please contact the MSW Field Director - Ms. Allison Curington (amcuring@valdosta.edu or 229-245-4337).
