Please consider visiting Valdosta State University to learn more about the MSW program. There are two formal opportunities for prospective students to visit each year. The first is in September and the second is Social Work Career Day in early January. I am also happy to arrange individual meetings.

INFORMATION FOR MSW APPLICANTS

September Visiting Day:This is an information session about the MSW program at VSU and the application process. This program will be held Friday, 21 September in the Atlanta and includes presentations on social work as a career, MSW coursework, field practicums, and admissions. There will also be opportunities for informal discussions and question/answer time. Please see the September Visiting Day flyer for additional information. January 13, 2012 - Social Work Career Day: Career Day is a full day of information about social work. The morning portion includes formal presentations on social work as a career, MSW coursework, field practicums, admissions and a faculty panel. There is an optional networking luncheon with social work agency representatives, current MSW students, prospective MSW students, Division of social work faculty and staff, and campus representatives. In the afternoon, approximately 40 Social Work Agencies will be available in a Career Fair format to discuss opportunities for field placements and/or careers in their organizations. There will be many opportunities for informal discussions and question/answer time throughout the day. Online REGISTRATION FORM for Social Work Career Day (January 13, 2012).

 

PARKING & CAMPUS MAPS

The September Visiting Day will be held at the NASW-GA Education Center. The address is 3070 Presidential Dr., Suite 228, Atlanta, GA 30340. Parking is available in the in the upper lot. If you have limited mobility and cannot use stairs, you may park on the lower level near suites 206 - 218. Otherwise, please park in the Presidential Office Park lot accessed via Presidential Parkway.

Directions to upper lot -

From Buckeye Rd: Turn left onto Presidential Drive and go to end of road; Turn right. Entrance to parking lot is the first driveway on your right.

From Chamblee-Tucker Rd. (near 1-85): Follow Presidential Parkway until you see the Presidential Office Park sign with clock. Turn into parking lot near the sign.

  1. When you enter the Presidential Office Park lot off Presidential Parkway, drive toward the long building in back with the number 3070 on the left end and 3050 on the right end. There is a breezeway in the middle of the building. Park in that vicinity.
  2. Look for the sign that says “3070 Suites 200-299” downstairs.” Take the steps to the lower level, turn left and go to Suite #228.
  3. NASW-GA Education Center is the 3rd door down on your left.

NASW-GA is located near Spaghetti Junction. Presidential Office Park is visible from I-85 (look for our blue roofs). Directions to the office are on the NASW-GA web site.

 

The January Career Day will be held in the Student Union on Oak Street. Parking is available in the Oak Street Parking Lot directly across the street. You may park without a permit in the Oak Street parking lot on the day of the event. Please do not park in handicapped, 24 hour reserved or fire lanes (unless you are authorized).

CURRENT MSW STUDENTS & SOCIAL WORK AGENCIES

Current MSW Students: All current MSW students are invited to attend Social Work Career Day - no reservation is necessary unless you plan to participate in the optional lunch ($10 in advance). Students planning to enter concentration practicum in the Fall of 2012 are required to attend.

Social Work Agency Representatives: Invitations for the Career Fair will be mailed to Social Work agencies that regularly host Valdosta State University practicum students. There will also be a Field Instructor Workshop the morning of Career Day. If you are an agency representative and would like a table at the career fair - or wish to participate in the Field Instructor Workshop, please return the reservation card or complete the on-line registration form.
