Application Guide
Application Packet:
Contact the Division of Social Work MSW Admissions Director (229-249-4864) or the VSU Graduate School for an application packet. You can also fill out this WEBFORM to request more information or ask questions.
Admission Requirements:
The MSW Application Review Committee takes a holistic approach to assessing applications. The following requirements should be met:
1. An undergraduate degree that has a liberal arts base
2. Prerequisite undergraduate courses with a grade of 'C' or better:
- Humanities - 6 hours
- Mathematics - 3 hours
- Social Sciences - 6 hours
- Course with content in Human Biology - 3 hours
3. Graduate Entrance Exam Scores (GRE or MAT):
A combined score of 800 or more on the verbal and quantitative section of the Graduate Record Examinations (GRE), or a score of 400 or more on the verbal and 3.5 or more on the analytical writing section of the GRE, OR a score of 400 on the Miller Analogies Test (MAT). 4. Grade Point Average
- 3.0 Grade Point Average in the last two years of undergraduate major
- 2.5 Overall Grade Point Average
- 3.0 Grade Point Average is required if a Master's degree is used for application
Additionally, the following materials must be submitted for review:
5. Completed Graduate Admission Application & MSW Supplemental Application (VSU Graduate School)
6. Three Completed Recommendation Forms from people who are familiar with your work and/or academic history
7. Resume
8. Narrative Statement regarding your career goals
**Academic credit will not be given for life experience or previous work experience.
