MSW Costs & Financial Assistance
The financial services office has fee schedules online. Currently we estimate the cost of an MSW degree from VSU for a full time, in-state student is approximately $7000 and a three-year on-campus or web-based student is approximately $8200 (subject to change by the university). With an MSW degree you can generally expect an increase in pay scale by at least $5,000-10,000 and much greater upward mobility. With this pay increase, a graduate could reimburse themselves within the first year of work. Please note that out-of-state tuition is approximately four times the cost of in-state tuition.

The IVE Grant is administered by the State of Georgia and covers cost of obtaining an MSW for qualified students. The VSU grant requires that applicants be CURRENTLY employed by DFCS in specific areas. For more information contact Ms. Carol Smith, VSU Title IVE Director. |

SDO provides students with financial support enabling them to formally participate in international, national, regional and local events. |

Graduate Assistantships cover most graduate tuition/fees and offer a small stipend in exchange for working on campus at VSU approximately 14 hours per week. These positions are competitive; apply through the VSU Graduate School. |

School Social Work Assoc. of Georgia (SSWAG) Scholarships |
The District 11 (Valdosta) SSWAG Book Scholarship covers the cost of books for the "Practice in Schools" course. MSW students entering concentration year and pursuing the School Social Work emphasis at VSU are eligible to apply. Must be in good academic standing; June 5, 2008 Application Deadline. The District 1 SSWAG Scholarship (Savannah) deadline is usually in December. |

Louise Chastain Scholarship |
The Louise Chastain Scholarship was established by Ms. Chastain for VSU MSW students from Thomas County. This scholarship is currently INACTIVE. |
The American Board of Examiners in Clinical Social Work (ABE) offers up to five $2,000 cash awards to final-year master’s students who can demonstrate excellence in preparation for clinical social work practice. Competitors submit papers based on clinical work done in their most recent field placement or practicum. |

Throughout its history, CSWE has been committed to increasing the participation of ethnic minorities in the social work/social welfare profession. This scholarship is awarded to master’s degree candidates in social work who have demonstrated a commitment to working with, or who have a special affinity with American Indian/Alaska Native and Hispanic/Latino populations, or in public and voluntary non profit agency settings. |

This scholarship is awarded to a master’s degree candidate in social work who demonstrates an interest in or has experience with, health/mental health practice and has a commitment to working in the African American community. |
