Masters Degree in Sociology
Welcome to the web pages for the Valdosta State University's Master of Science in Sociology. We hope that these pages explain the degree program and answer some of the basic questions you might have about admission.
Our program emphasizes the learning of applied sociological skills. What does that mean? Well, we believe that our discipline is at its best when it is used in the "real world," rather than just something for academics in their offices to do when they are not teaching classes. Our program, which can be completed in eighteen months, will teach you, for instance, how to analyze actual organizations and provide sociological insights that could help them to perform their missions more effectively. You and your classmates, for example, might study how people behave in order to help a non-profit organization encourage volunteerism.
Our students develop a sociological toolkit that they can take with them after graduation, to use on the job, while volunteering, and in their personal relationships.
Applied sociological skills can aid you in many fields. Here are just a few: |
|
| Market Research Analysis | Nursing Home Administration |
| Health Care | Law Enforcement |
| Social Services Agencies | Human Resource Management |
| Consulting | Planning |
| Housing | Community Organizing |
| Non-Profit Agencies | Evaluation research |
| Teaching in Community or 2 year Colleges | |
