From The Valdosta Daily Times:

As Rep. Kingston approached the group, they raised two sheet signs that pointed to the negative aspects of using non-renewable and dangerous forms of energy such as nuclear or coal.

Following Rep. Kingston's participation in the parade, he met with the members of SAVE to discuss how alternative sources of energy such as solar power and wind turbines can be used to replace coal, oil and nuclear sources of energy. The students requested that Kingston take a special look at the energy bill going through Congress.

Cater Davis, president of Unicef at VSU who also attended the parade, said, “The passing of an aggressive energy bill that addresses a strong transition towards renewable energy and away from nuclear energy and coal is very important. These are the steps that need to be taken for us, as a nation, to seriously begin to move away from dependence on foreign fuels and rely on our own resources at home that are clean and safe.”

The energy bill they were bringing to Kingston’s attention includes a minimum of 35 miles per gallon by 2020 fuel efficiency, a renewable electricity standard making utilities 15 percent of solely renewable energy by the year 2020, as well as no new coal or nuclear energy.
