Written by Natalie Quinn Starting with the earth hour event on March 29th, 2008 and continuing until the official earth day, April 22, 2008, Students Against Violating the Environment is planning some great events to remind everyone the important role a clean Earth plays in our lives. Keep posted on what is coming up and please come out and join us with these city events. Earth Hour 2008 ![]() At 8pm on March 29, 2008, one hour has been officially dedicated to turning off lights all over the world and this means Valdosta, too. Businesses, schools, and households are challenged to participate and are able to sign up at earthhour.org to make it known you plan to take part! So turn of your dorm lights, call your parents tell them to turn their lights off, and tell all of your friends! This hour is a symbolic act of dedication towards saving energy and is intended to deliver a compelling message about the need of action and remind us all of the possibility of using alternative forms of energy. The hour can and should be filled with many fun activities such as star gazing, family candlelit games, quiet meditation, just be creative! To alter the course of climate change we must act now. The U.S. is the world's leading emitter of carbon dioxide—over 20 tons per person every year. One person committed to reducing energy consumption can make a difference, and millions of us working together can change the world. S.A.V.E is encouraging the entire city of Valdosta too as well and is working closely with the city and school to make sure this happens! So do not hesitate, Valdosta! Join us in this hour of celebration of and dedication to the earth NWF Chill Out 08 ![]() Campuses across the country are taking steps to confront climate change. Through energy efficiency, renewable energy, habitat restoration and awareness projects, campuses are leading the way. On April 16, 2008, thousands of students, faculty and staff will gather to watch the second annual Chill Out broadcast. VSU Students David Rodock & Alex Abell have a short YouTube video in the contest and the winner will be decided on April 16, LIVE. The broadcast will feature the winning schools, discussions and the winning YouTube entries! S.A.V.E. the Earth Festival 2008 ![]() S.A.V.E is throwing an Earth Day celebration to remember the vital role a healthy Earth plays in our lives. The celebration will take place in Drexel Park on April 19, 2008. We invite all of VSU and the community at large to celebrate Earth Day with us in the park.
