Campaign Plan >>

Okay S.A.V.E.rs, here is your chance to let it all out.  What is on your mind? You can say anything, but it would be very helpful if you included the top issues that you would like to see incorporated into S.A.V.E.'s campaign plan for this year.  You can do it anonymously or include your name. It's all up to you.  S.A.V.E. wouldn't be anything without its members, so let us all take ownership of that & make some plans to step it up & make some progress in 2008!

I think our focus this semester should be sheer Public Relations. With this being the busier semester with finals and such, we should build a foundation of notoriety while still being involved in the school, community, etc. Then, when we come back for fall semester, our name will be out there to the freshmen and new students who are looking for something to join other than a fraternity or sorority. We should make posters and S.A.V.E t-shirts, and sheet signs to get people interested. I know plenty of people who are interested in the environment, but just have never heard of our group. Possibly a music festival and having proceeds and donations sent to one of our causes?
Campaigning as a Public Relations By Unknown on Feb 21 2008 at 3:09 AM

I think that it might be really hard to do public relations if we are not running a campaign and have something to speak about as our issue.

I think seth said the other night about how awareness is always something your doing.. but we have to have direction and a campaign to be doing awareness or media stuff.
campaign to encompass everything? By Unknown on Feb 21 2008 at 12:10 PM
I think our overall campaign should still focus on energy, and now with the new coal plants being proposed in our state, that it should be of the upmost importance that these are not constructed. The Green Proposal to Board of Regents isn't over yet, and I think that the pressure we put on Dynegy and the 10 EMC's to not build the plant can be action taken for an over all energy campaign that pushes the administration of the university into obtaining renewable energy for the campus and pressuring Georgia power to offer more renewable energy options, using the dynegy plant and the 10 EMC plants as leverage of public awareness of the dying industry of coal and the booming and blooming industry of renewable wind and solar. I think that with this as a goal, we can encompass the fossil fool's day, the green energy proposal, the coal plants in our areas, the georgia power action, the mayor's climate committment, the president's climate commitment, the new president's screen and whatever committee and an action in april when the canidates for the new presidents will be coming to campus, current GSS campaigns that encompass water contamination and water conservation just to name a few. THis will build HUGE PR (public relations) and not only for local media but also regional and national.
Unity By Unknown on Feb 21 2008 at 3:58 PM
The enviroment is not something that belongs to one or two groups on campus. Everyone has some connection to the enviroment around them. SAVE needs to be more forthright in bringing SAVE to the other organizations on campus. Some of the other posts have said that we need PR. PR goes further than t-shirts, stickers, and coozies. We need to talk to the leaders of the other organizations and unify the campus as a whole against the injustices we percieve in our community. It is SAVE's job to lead the movement. It is time to include more than just the hippies and free thinkers. Some of our attitudes must change. You cannot unify the masses when you do not accept the rights of other groups to make soveriegn choices. Attitude reflects leadership. If SAVE can grow from being the campus hippy group to the group of future leaders of anthro, soc, business, and education"; who all have a thought process connected to the well being of the planet then our efforts are justified. To change the system, it must be infiltrated at the same time openly challenged.

I would like to take a moment to say how amazing each one of you are. When SAVE started a few years ago it was just a handful of pissed off potheads who had no clue about mass or political organization and now we lead the Southeast. Mandy, Russ, and the Godfather (Seth) you guys blow me away. I am a better human for being in your presence. Alex, thanks bro, you made SAVE visually beautiful. Everyone else who I don't know, your contributions have helped this organization make meaningful changes in our society, keep it up. The leadership in this organization is solid and dedicated.

Yours in Liberty and with much Respect.

unity with an energy agenda. we must unite under or in relation to something, otherwise we are just a bunch of friends (which is cool) but we have the brain/will-power to do something with our synergy. Energy is the imperative issue within our state so i think it would make a good focus. but i am also partial to evolving the city\'s transportation plan into something available and convenient for the most ppl (especially those in/around the downtown area and over the bridge) and since there are other community projects that could use our organizational touch to them i\'m suggesting a community-pointed campaign with a few specific goals (a watered-down version of the mayor\'s agreement) with easily attainable objectives (such as getting the privately owned business\'s to use more eco-friendly to-go containers and maybe even have the city mandate their usage.

i am not opposed to energy and the no coal campaign but it is a larger issue that i feel is more appropriate for a state-wide campaign

i think structure and foundation and unity are key things to work on this semester - even if we have to put a major campaign on hold.

i also have some suggestions about our weekly meetings involving new members being unaware of \'procedures\' during voting and during discussions/hand signals.

what if we had a handout or saved google doc that could be displayed on the big screen that explained these protocals to new members so they don feel so lost during the whole process?

thats all for now folks - happy weekend!

Former SAVE Pres and member 1998-2001 By Unknown on Apr 01 2008 at 2:46 PM
Hi,

I am still connected with many former leaders of SAVE and we are all involved heavily with local food organizing - organic farming, sustainable farming, food preservation, seed saving, energy conservation methods and permaculture. It is an issue that can not be ignored.

With the reality of a warming planet, war and over population food scarcity is the number one topic amongst longterm community activist. I hope that SAVE is able to bring about some awareness around local food issues within it's membership and the people of South Georgia. Willie Head is the only local producer that I remember from your area he was just getting into sustainable food practices at the time. He was also the leader of the Black Farmers Coalition.

Just to let you know all of the former SAVE members that I am connected with are located and remain environmental activist and advocates in the Southeastern parts of the US - NC, LA, GA, and FL I can help you connect.

Good luck and if you would like to contact me my address is giachild@care2.com

You might also want to add to SAVE's history page - much of the work done by SAVE in the years 1998-2001 is documented and archived in the VSU library...please check it out, we saved it for ya'll.

Thank you for your time and work,
Jennifer 'Finn' Ferrell-Odle

We need to focus on community engagement and open ourselves more to the public. That is the only sure fire way to actually make change.
