VSU is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. The current accreditation period is effective from January 2011 through December 2020.

The Commission on Colleges and its Committees on Compliance and Reports met officially December 4-7, 2010 to make final decisions on accreditation statuses of institutions eligible for reaccreditation. Public announcements of reaccreditation were made at the SACS Annual Conference on December 7th, 2010.

A SACS review team of 10 members conducted VSU's on-site review from April 6th through 8th, 2010. Based on an extensive review of VSU's compliance materials, the committee concluded that no recommendations for corrective action were necessary. To learn more about the on-site review, read President Schloss’ Notes from April 2010.
