The Department of Campus Recreation at Valdosta
State University (VSU) currently offers a wide variety of non-credit
American Red Cross courses. All new standards will be taught in
each class.

Standard CPR/First Aid/AED
- January 23rd 2-9pm
- March 13th 2-9pm
Course Length: 6-9 hours
Cost: SRC Member $50 dollars/Non SRC member $60 Dollars

Description: Supplies participants with the knowledge and skills necessary
to prevent, recognize, and provide basic care for injuries and sudden illness until advanced medical personnel arrive and take over. This course covers first aid and adult CPR. Workplace training: Standard First Aid with AED is available in a 6 1/2 hour course with AED training included.

CPR for the Professional
Rescuer

Course Length: 6-9hours
Cost: SRC member $60 Dollar/ Non SRC member $70 Dollars

Description: Course that teaches a variety of skills including infant, child and adult COR, one-and two-person CPR, use of resuscitation masks and bag-valve masks for ventilating victums, and how to respond in special rescue situations such as choking or other breathing difficulties.

Automated External Defibrillator
Course Length: 2hours
Cost: SRC members $33 dollars/Non SRC members $43 dollars
Description: This course teaches individuals currently certified in Adult CPR how to safely use an AED to provide care for victims of sudden cardiac arrest.

Preventing Disease Transmission
Course Length: 2hours
Cost: SRC members $33 dollars/Non SRC members $43 dollars
Description: The newly-updated course meets the Occupational Safety
and Health Administration's revised blood borne Pathogens Standard. This course teaches participants how blood borne pathogens are spread, how to prevent exposures and what to do if exposed to infectious materials.

Workplace Injury Management
Course Length: 1 hour
Cost: SRC members $16 dollars/Non SRC members $26 dollars
Description: Focusing on common causes of worksite injuries and key health risks, these one-hour awareness-level modules highlight risks and promote prevention. Self-assesments help employees recognize risky habits. Demonstrations and lively discussions reinforce practical prevention tips. Modules include: Ergonomics; Slips, Trips and Falls; Back Injury Prevention; Workplace Violence Awareness; Managing Stress; and your Heart Matters.

Lifeguard Training
- March 23rd - April 24th (Monday/Wednesday 7-10:30pm)
- March 24th - April 24th (Tuesday/Thursday 7-10:30pm)
Course Length: 36hours
Cost: SRC members $135 dollars/Non SRC members $155 Dollars
Description: Through Classroom learning and hands on practice, participants train to help people safely enjoy the water. Lifeguard candidates learn land and water-based rescue skills, first aid and professional rescuer CPR procedures, lifeguarding responsibilities and tactics for interacting positively with the public and addressing uncooperative patrons. This course includes Automated External Defibrillation, preventing disease transmission, and Oxygen Administration.

Lifeguard Training Review
Course Length: 6-8hours
Cost: SRC members $82 dollars/Non SRC members $92 dollars
Description: Allows currently certified American Red Cross Lifeguards to renew certain cerifications before they expire. This course briefly touches on all aspects of the lengthier Lifeguard training course. Recertification is available for lifeguarding, CPR for the professional rescuer, Automated External Defibrillation, and Oxygen administration.

Challenge
Course Length: 2-3hours
Cost: SRC members $75 dollars/Non SRC members $85 dollars
Description: Allows currently certified American Red Cross Lifeguards to renew certain certifications before they expire. Note: The challenge process may also be used by lifeguards with expired certifications once in their lifetime. Recertification is available for Lifeguarding, CPR for the professional rescuer, AED, and Oxygen Administration.

Lifeguard Management
Course Length: 8-10 hours
Cost: SRC members $60 dollars/Non SRC members $70 dollars
Description: Provides participants with the skills and knowledge needed to effectively manage lifeguards and to create an environment keeping patrons, staff, and the aquatic facility safe. Course covers the responsibilities of a lifeguard supervisor, the selection and training of lifeguards, team building, risk management, principles of injury prevention, and emergency response training.
