PSST! 2008!
Peach State Summer Theatre is already ripe for its 2008 Season! Beginning May 30, 2008, Sawyer Stage will once again be home to three wonderfully entertaining musicals presented in a rotating repertory. This season, be sure not to miss Singin’ in the Rain, Disney’s Aladdin, and Ragtime.
Singin’ in the Rain, with book by Betty Comden and Adolph Green, lyrics by Arthur Freed, and music by Nacio Herb Brown, is the stage adaption of the film. Nominated for several theatrical awards, including two Tonys, Singin’ in the Rain, features favorite musical numbers like the title sequence, “Singin’ in the Rain” and “Make ‘em Laugh”. Audiences already familiar with this theatrical classic will enjoy sharing this musical with the entire family.
Disney’s Aladdin, based on Disney’s film version of the same name, is moving from celluloid to stage! Watch Disney’s famed characters like the ever-popular Genie come to life like you have never seen them before! Audiences will delight in watching Aladdin struggle against the tyrannical Jafar for his true love, Jasmine. Show-stopping numbers include “Never had a Friend like Me” featuring the larger-than-life Genie, and “A Whole New World”.
Ragtime, based on E. L. Doctorow’s novel, with book by Terrence McNally, lyrics by Lynn Ahrens, and music by Stephen Flaherty, follows the lives of three families in the early 1900s. Audiences will watch their lives unfold against a background of vaudeville, baseball, labor rallies and race riots. Witness such powerful and poignant musical numbers like “Your Daddy’s Son”, “Till We Reach that Day”, and “Wheels of a Dream”. This historic and moving musical encompasses a variety of themes including love and loss in the age of Ragtime music.
Show dates for all three musicals will begin in late May and run through mid-July. Singin’ in the Rain, Disney’s Aladdin, and Ragtime will be presented in a rotating repertory. Reservations may be made by calling our box office at (229) 259-7770 beginning May 13.
