Frequently Asked Questions

How were the Presidential Screen and Search Committee members selected?

According to Board of Regents policy, revised at the April 2008 Board of Regents meeting, “The Presidential Search and Screen Committee shall be appointed by the Chancellor in consultation with the Board Chair and the Chair of the Special Regents’ Search Committee.”   “…the voting membership of the Presidential Search and Screen Committee shall consist of three (3) faculty representatives from the institution, al least one (1) representative of the staff, at least one (1) student, and at least two (2) representatives from the surrounding community, including the institution’s foundation and its alumni association.  [Page 75, April 2007 Regents’ meeting minutes].

Will the Presidential Search and Screen Committee (PSSC) submit ranked candidates?

No.  In general, the purpose of the PSSC is to identify, recommend/nominate, and screen presidential candidates.  By the end of April 2008, the PSSC will recommend and submit at least five unranked qualified candidates to the Special Regent’s Search Committee.  At that point, the PSSC’s work will be completed.

Who is Parker Executive Search?

Parker Executive Search is a national search firm hired to help with the search and screen process.  Laurie Wilder, Senior Vice President is coordinating the VSU Presidential search process at Parker Executive Search.

How may I nominate someone as a candidate and what information do I need to provide?

Nominations may be sent directly to Laurie Wilder Parker Executive Search at lwilder@parkersearch.com , or to Dr. Cynthia Tori, Chair of the VSU Presidential Search and Screen committee at crtori@valdosta.edu.  You only need to provide the candidate’s name and current location of employment or residency.

When will the candidate names be publicly reported?

With the approval of the candidates, the PSSC plans to announce the candidate names prior to their VSU campus visits during the last two weeks of April 2008.  Since some candidates may not want to be considered if their names are released early in the process, confidentiality during the early stages of the search and screen process is very important.  The PSSC does not want the publicity of the candidate’s name to discourage a highly qualified candidate from considering the position.
