Parents, have you heard about Co-op
(Cooperative Education)?
Your student may have had DECA, VICA or Shadowing in their high school which provided work or observation in a field that interested them. That’s what Co-op is about here at Valdosta State University, relevant work experience related to the student’s major and /or career interest.
When can they start the process? After they have completed 30 hours and are sophomore status. We recommend they start working with a Co-op Counselor to complete the readiness process the semester before they become a sophomore. We encourage freshman students to begin in Career Services for career counseling, testing and workshops and then move into the Co-op program. Co-op is a unit of Career Services.
Parents, we know you want your student to be prepared to “land that job” after graduation and in addition to their academics their career skills are important. Relevant work experience along with academics is what most employers look for in their hiring process.
So to answer the question of “when to begin Co-op”, your student’s second semester is the perfect time to start the process.
I look forward to our Co-op office working with your student and please contact me if you have any questions. For additional information, please visit, the Co-op Office Website.
Thank you,
