PROGRAM RIGHT TRACK
(Post-secondary Readiness Enrichment Program)
FACT SHEET PROGRAM RIGHT TRACK is a "Partnership effort"! This program is a P-16/ University System of Georgia/Board of Regents/ Department of Technical Education/Department of Education-initiated program designed, funded and mandated to offer "supportive services" to area Middle Schools, which have signed on as partners. It is, by no means, intended to take the place of any educational program currently in-place in any of the partner schools. The program is expected to offer service/assistance to each of the partner schools as requested (tutorial services, special programming, mentoring services, etc.).
It is the goal of PROGRAM RIGHT TRACK to offer supportive services to 6 local school systems (Lowndes, Echols, Brooks, Cook and Lanier counties, and Valdosta city); 7 area middle schools (7th and 8th grade); and, services are to be offered to up to 600 students (100 students per system) who are identified as those in "at-risk situations". While these students may be experiencing difficulties, they must indicate the potential to succeed. During the 1999-2000 academic year, over 100 middle grade students were served by approximately 35 VSU students.
The Purpose? With the proposed post-secondary institution requirements (college, technical, and training schools) expected to be in place by the year 2001, this program is expected to offer services each year until the graduation of the first group -to enhance readiness, offer preparation skills, and enrich educational experiences.
During the 2000-2001 academic year, The Saturday Enrichment Program will be offered to up to 400 -plus students -- one Saturday per month (on the campus of VSU; transportation provided by each system). Students were identified to participate in this program from their participation in the summer program (schools included are Lowndes County, Echols, Brooks, Cook, and Lanier Middle, and J.L. Newbern). This program is expected to offer new and different experiences to the participants (i.e. hands-on experimental projects, interactive experiences, on-site tours, developmental activities [test-taking skills, personal development, communication skills, etc.], and others).
Each year a group of 100 new 8th graders is added to participate in the On-campus Summer and Saturday Enrichment Programs.
PROGRAM RIGHT TRACK can only experience success if we work TOGETHER!
