Acknowledgements (Texas)
Education. Go Get It, Campaign for College Readiness. An Initiative of the Southwest Georgia Higher Education Consortium
The Georgia Campaign for College Readiness is indebted to the folks in Texas who created and developed the concept of College for Texans. What follows is the “Acknowledgments" section from the Texas training kit (with minor updates due to changes in the materials), which mentions those who were responsible for the initial Texas project.
The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) wishes to thank the many individuals and entities responsible for the creation of the College for Texans Training Kit. Although it is not possible to list the dozens of persons who contributed to this important project, we do wish to extend a sincere thank you.
The Southern Regional Education Board (SREB) and Texas Guaranteed (TG) generously provided financial support for this project. Joan Lord and her staff at SREB, and Jacob Fraire and TG staff, provided valuable technical support and advice on development of the kit.
The Council for the Management of Educational Finance, especially Dr. Larry Burt and Vicki Murillo Reyes, contributed to the financial aid information.
The Texas Awareness Initiative, a partnership of state and local higher education and financial aid entities, was largely responsible for the middle school sections of this kit and provided valuable advice on the Spanish translation. The College Board often hosted meetings of the Texas Awareness Initiative members as they worked on this project, for which we are grateful.
THECB thanks the Texas Scholars program of the Texas Business and Education Coalition (TBEC), especially Joe Randolph and Drew Scheberle, for their support and for allowing us to use adaptations of Texas Scholars presentations for the high school student and parent presentations.
Many thanks to Jaime La Fuente and Rita Cosgrove at
Extend-A -Care for Kids in Austin for contributing to the activities for young children and to Frank Ringer for connecting us with Extend-a-Care for Kids and other groups.
Rose Martinez and Natalie Woodward, campaign project directors, took the lead in writing and developing the kit. The Texas Business and Education Coalition (TBEC) contributed valuable information for Modules 4 and 5. Coordinating Board staff Ray Grasshoff and Gloria White edited, and the staff of Sherry Matthews Advocacy Marketing coordinated logistics. Thank you to Jane Caldwell who designed the .first iteration of the .financial aid presentation for high school students and to Lynn Burkhart for her amazing administrative support throughout this process. Many thanks for the tireless effort and enthusiastic commitment of all these campaign partners to this project.
